The Newmarket Skating Club was established in October, 1953. We are a member club of, and sanctioned by, Skate Canada. With a membership approaching 1000, NSC is one of the largest Skate Canada clubs in the country. Some world class skaters began their careers with NSC - the most notable to date: Elvis Stojko!!!
A large portion of NSC programming is directing at teaching youngsters and adults how to skate. We offer a full range of programs including learn to skate for children, learn to skate for adults, figure skating, competitive programs, synchronized skating.
NSC is a not-for-profit organization served by fifteen dedicated volunteer board members and a highly skilled group of Professional Coaches. Please visit the "About Us" menu item for a detailed list of the executive members and professional coaches.
Children as young as three years old can join our programs and learn to skate in a fun, recreational environment. We also offer adult programs, so that you can keep up with your kids. Parents are not required to be on the ice while their child is skating. Please see "Registration" and "NSC Programs" to determine which program best suits your child.
Regardless of which ice sport children choose (hockey, ringette, figure skating, or speed skating) they must all learn the same basic skills. If the child learns the basic skills with the Skating Club first, they will have a much easier time concentrating on the specific skills associated with a particular ice sport. For instance, a child beginning hockey instruction will be able to learn hockey skills and the rules of the game far more effectively if they have already learned the basics of skating.
