Power Skate
Program Description

The Power Skate program is offered jointly by the Newmarket Skating Club and the Town of Newmarket Parks, Recreation and Culture department.  This program is designed for both boys and girls to improve their skating skills for both hockey and ringette.

The Power Skate program is suitable for skaters from house league to rep levels.  Skaters must be able to skate forward, skate backward and have controlled stops.  Each class begins with a warm-up, followed by a series of drills to improve stops and turns in both directions, balance, quick starts, forward and backward crossovers in boh directions, and circuits for tight glide turns.  During all activities, there is a focus on improving speed and stride.

Skaters are to wear full equipment and bring their hockey/ringette sticks.  NO pucks please.

PLEASE NOTE:  A skater may be asked to transfer into an NSC or joint NSC/Town learn-to-skate program if they are not able to keep up with the group.  They can join the PowerSkate program in the future, once their speed and control have progressed to a level that is appropriate for the PowerSkate program.
